Sources: TASTDSB Voyage no. 21903. C 6/366/46 Description: Short title: Arnold v Bradford. Plaintiffs: William Arnold, Thomas Taylor, Thomas Harwood, Daniel Oley, John Silk, Thomas Moore, John Taylor and William Mackett. Defendants: James Bradford, Francis Everett, John Maria, Percival Sheppard, Valentine George (alias Valentine Erinson) Joseph Williams, Patrick Barrett, Peter Hicke, John Hancock, James Stewart, John Rogers, Edward Arnold, Emanuel Revele, Edward Corbett, James Palmer, Joseph Bottick, Samuel Miller, Edward Waite, Edward Hall, Peter Dickinson, William Wilson, John Pain, Nathaniel Davis and Jonathan Yates. Subject: the plaintiffs were owners of the ship Thomas and John, which set out for Old Calibar, Guinea Coast, Africa to pick up a cargo of negroes [slaves]. They were unable to go to Jamaica, West Indies as intended as the season was too late, so they went instead to York River, Virginia, America where, according to the plaintiffs, most of the crew, the defendants, deserted or were dismissed. This suit was brought to counter the claim of the crew for back pay etc: mentions Robert Ranson: property in Gravesend, Kent. Document type: bill, eight answers. 1707. This voyage appears to correspond most closely to TASTDB Voyage no. 21226, by the Thomas and John in 1705 from London to Calabar and York River with Robert Ransome as captain, but with Peter Joye, William Arnold, John Taylor, Abraham Lodge, James Waite and Daniel Jamineau as owners. PROB 11/600/123.
