Plaintiffs: Edward Carleton merchant, of London, Arden Carleton merchant, of London, Nathaniel Johnson merchant, of London, Charles Kent merchant, of London, Peter Smith merchant, of London, Benjamin Wolmore merchant, of London, Jeremiah Mason merchant, of London, Jonathan Gardner merchant, of London and Anthony Forly [sic] merchant of London. Defendants: Benjamin Brewer, Samuel Barlow, Mary Chadwick widow, Richard Staples distiller, of Limehouse, London. Subject: Value of profits from the ship Macclesfield, a galley that traded iron, brass and woollen goods for gold, elephants teeth and slaves at the Guinea Coast, Africa and continued to Jamaica, West Indies, where a mutiny took place, before returning to London: mentions Samuel Chadwick sea captain. Dec. 28 [1715], Royal warrant dated St. James's to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal to grant to John Fellows of London, Esq. (in consideration of 7,663l. paid to Henry Ferne, Customs Cashier), the estate at Carshalton of Edward Carlton: he and Arden Carleton, late of London, merchants, being indebted to the Crown on [Customs] bonds whereupon three extents were taken out under the seal of the Exchequer Court whereon the Sheriff of Surrey by virtue of three inquisitions taken before him on the said extents 1713 Sept. 28 and 1714 April 5 and July 15 did seize into the hands of the Crown the capital messuage of the said Edward Carleton lying in Carshalton to the yearly value of 313l. The said Fellows is to hold same so long as the same remains in the hands of the Crown by virtue of the said extents.'
