Gilbert Fleming
Born: Unknown
Died: 1762

Slave-owner and merchant of St Kitts (d. 1762). Together with other St Kitts merchants, he owned the Tankerville, a privateer, in 1758. The following year the Tankerville made a slaving voyage under the same commander to Cape Coast Castle and Basse-Terre for which no ownership information is shown in TASTDB but which can reasonably be inferred to have been owned by Gilbert Fleming et al.

Will of Honourable Gilbert Fleming, Lieutenant-General of HM's Leeward Islands [now residing in London]made 17/04/1760 and proved 04/03/1762. He subjected his Salt Ponds estate 'with the negroes and stock thereto belonging' as additional security for the annuity of £500 p.a. to his wife Ann if his Shadwell estate was insufficient to support it. He had an estate also in Tortola which he left to his grandson Gabriel Wayne subject to monetary legacies to his two grand-daughters of £1500 each. He left his son Gilbert Fane his residual estate, after other monetary legacies, and bequests for rings to the Dowager Countess Lady Tankerville. Among his bequests was his own portrait by 'van Loo', which he left to his wife for life.
