Sources: HCA 42/442/656 Description: Manuscript prize appeal No 656, from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Martinique, filed in 1810. Captured ship: Juno (master John Fisher). Nationality: American. History: a slave ship, laden with 403 enslaved people; taken before July 1807 by the French privateer La Becune (Jerome Boubec commanding), and brought into Martinique (subsequently British). Appellant: the master, of Philadelphia, American citizen for the ship and for the slaves on board as owner. Respondent: the captor. Manuscript appeal papers, never printed. 'For process in this appeal, see the minutes in HCA 44/70, ff51-52v.' William Malcolm reportedly sold the ship to John Fisher in front of a London notary 17/05/1806, American Star Papers Vol. III (1832) p. 335. The 1805 Lloyd's Register (Shipowners) shows an entry for the Juno captained J. Miller built Nwbry owned Stone & Co. sailing Li-Havre; while the entry immediately above is for the Juno captained by Mesishaw owned by Huckleston built Rochester sailing London-NY. In 1806 the Lloyd's Register (Shipowners) again shows an entry for the Juno captained J. Miller built Nwbry owned Stone & Co. sailing Li-Havre, with J. Fisher entered in a subscript as master and the captain as owner, sailing Lo-Angola, while the entry immediately above is for the Juno captained by Mesishaw owned by Huckleston built Rochester sailing London-NY (it also shows a Juno with the master as Malcolm sailing Liverpool-Savanna, but this appears unrelated to the William Malcolm selling the ship in 1806). The 1807 Lloyd's Register (Shipowners) shows the Juno with 'T. Fisher' as master and the owner as Captain, London-Angola (as well as another Juno 'J. Fisher' as master and the owner as Captain, London-Grenada): 'Huckleston' appears as the owner of a Juno sailing Liv-Savanna under Malcolm as captain; while the 1807 Lloyd's Register (Underwriters) shows two entries for a Juno captained by J.Fisher, one sailing London-Angola owned by Huttleson built Amer. and the other London-Grenada owned by the captain built Scrbro'.
