John Mackerell or Maccarell does not appear in TASTDB, but ‘John Maccarell and Company’ is shown as the owner of the Mary, clearing from London, captained by John Cross and trading on the coast of Guinea in late 1702 and returning to London in the summer of 1703. Pettigrew gives ‘John Mackerell’ in the index of independent traders. He has not been further traced to date under either variant spelling.
