Matthew Clarmont
Matthew Clarmont (d. 1772), Governor of the Bank of England and partner with Nicholas Linwood (q.v.) in Clarmont and Linwood, London wine merchants. ‘Messrs Claremont [sic] and Linwood’ of London were shown as the owners of the Good Success under letters of marque, commander John Pickett, in January 1758. In March 1758 the ship under John Pickett made a slaving voyage from London to Malembo and Jamaica under John Pickett, for which no ownership information is shown in TASTDB. It is inferred but not documented that the owners of the slaving voyage were the same as the owners of the ship as privateer earlier in the year.
