Nicholas Linwood
Nicholas Linwood, East India Co. director and MP (d. 1773) and partner as wine merchants of Matthew Clarmont (q.v.). ‘Messrs Claremont and Linwood’ of London were shown as the owners of the Good Success under letters of marque, commander John Pickett, in January 1758. In March 1758 the ship under John Pickett made a slaving voyage from London to Malembo and Jamaica under, for which no ownership information is shown in TASTDB. In the will of Nicholas Linwood of Spring Gardens Charing Cross Middlesex proved 18/05/1773 he left £100 to Mr Mark Cephas Tutet, late principal clerk in the counting house of Clarmont and Linwood. It is inferred but not documented that the owners of the slaving voyage were the same as the owners of the ship as privateer earlier in the year.
