D.O.D:
Joseph Moore was co-owner alongside the Royal African Co. in a slaving voyage by the Swan to Gambia and Martinique in 1703. He was probably Joseph Moore merchant of London who appears as the co-owner of two ships under letters of marque, the Banstead Galley in 1709 and the Beake [sic, probably the Brake] Galley in 1710 (neither is known to have been a slave-ship but his co-owners included other London slave-traders, in the case of the Banstead Galley John Barnard (q.v. under John Bernard) and in the case of the Brake Samuel Shephe[a]rd (q.v.)) and whose will was proved in 1719. The will, however, has no direct evidence of a connection with the RAC.
