Will of James Berdor or Berdoe Citizen and Merchant Taylor [made in 1720] proved 09/12/1721. He left his wife Elizabeth an annuity of £500 p.a. instead of the £3000 lump sum he had settled on her on their marriage, and the right for life to his house at Hammersmith, on condition that she renounced her right to one-third of his estate. He left £6000 to his son James Berdoe, £1500 each to three of his children (John, Bearcroft and Susannah) and £2000 to a fifth, Sophia, the latter four at 21 with the interest to clothe and educate them until then. He identified himself as following the trade of an ironmonger in leaving his stock and the business house at Thames Street to his son James: if the latter died then the trade was to pass to his [the testator's] servant Isaac Walker for seven years. In a codicil he added legacies of £100 each to three sons of his brother Samuel Berdoe and to the eldest sons of his two brothers-in-law William Kay and John Parsonn, and £20 to his godson the son of Anthony Tourney of London ironmonger.
