P_10433_0386 – Jacob Mendez
Born: Unknown
Died: Unknown

Jacob Mendez was co-owner with Isaac Mendez (q.v.) of a slaving voyage from London by the Abraham and Moses to Africa and St John Antigua in 1700. The same ship under the same captain had made a slaving voyage to Africa and Barbados in 1699, when the owner was shown as Abraham Mendez (q.v., under Abraham Mendez or Mendes). Isaac and Jacob Mendez, the sons of Abraham Mendez senior shown in the latter’s will proved in 1730, were almost certainly too young to have been the co-owners in 1700. It is more likely that Isaac Mendes was the brother of Abraham Mendez senior. Isaac and Moses Mendes were slave-factors in Barbados 1698-1707, while Jacob Mendes merchant of London, son of Joseph Mendez of Barbados, was party to litigation in 1726, and was possibly the James Mendes of Mitcham whose will was proved in 1748.
