3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies

Co-owner of eight slaving voyages from London in an intense burst of investment between 1699 and 1702, six with his brother and partner Daniel Alford (q.v.).  Joseph and Daniel Alford were London West India merchants, appearing in the wills of several slave-owners, e.g. attesting the will of Francis or Frauncis Browne of Montserrat in 1702 [where Joseph is given ‘Tho.’] and as executors of Patrick Browne of Antigua in his will made 08/02/1705 and proved 30/08/1706.  No will or death-date has yet been found for Joseph Alford: a man of that name of Crooked Lane was buried at St George the Martyr Southwark 11/07/1709.
