Born: Unknown

Major London slave-trader with an intense burst of voyages between 1700 and 1702, all with William Arnald or Arnold (q.v.). Given only as Brough (and in one case Bough) in the TASTDB. The will of Robert Brough clothworker of London proved 16/11/1703 strongly suggests him to have been the slave-trader, identifying as it does his ‘sonne’ William Arnold [who was in fact his son-in-law].’

In the will of Robert Brough made 22/09/1703 he said that, having no wife, his children were by custom entitled to a moiety of his estate, and given that he had already advanced £2000 to his son Robert, £3000 to his daughter Hannah Arnold and £1500 to his daughter Elizabeth Arnold, and he gave Robert a further £3500, Hannah £2500 and Elizabeth £4000. From the second half of his estate he gave Robert £6000; Hannah £500, her son Benjamin Wallamy [sp?] £700 and her daughter Catherine Wallamy £1000; and her son Richard £200; and £200 to his grandson Robert Furnace [sic: later in the will he left £50 to Sir Henry Furnese for mourning].
