P_10433_0435 – Jonathan Mathews

D.O.B: D.O.D:

Jonathan Mathews, London Virginia merchant in partnership with John Goodwin (q.v.), co-owner of six slaving voyages from London between 1698 and 1701 (for which he was given as ‘Jonathan Matthews’).  Although all the recorded voyages of Jonathan Mathews the slave trader went to the Caribbean, not Virginia, and John Goodwin was not a partner in the slave voyages, Mathews was co-investor with Abraham Houlditch in four of the voyages, and was shown by des Cognets as co-owner with Houlditch (and Goodwin and others) in the ship the Mansfeild of London. No will has been found for either Jonathan Mathews or Matthews to date.
