P_10433_0527 – James Lea
James Lea, co-owner with unnamed others alongside James Berdoe and Daniel Jamineau of a slaving voyage from London by the Loyall Johnson to Africa and Charleston in 1709. Possibly an American colonist in partnership with two London merchants. The voyage appears in Rugemer, Slave Law and the Politics of Resistance in the Early Atlantic World, but has no reference to Lea/Lee, citing only Berdoe and Jamineau as owners.

Sources: Hon. James Lee, a Captain of an East Indiaman named Litchfield, was a younger son of the Earl of Litchfield. Pettigrew has a John Lea. The surgeon for the voyage of the Loyall Johnson, James Callane, left his estate to John Key of London in his will made 12/11/1709. John Key was probably the slave-trade mariner on the Thomas and John whose will was proved 11/02/1709 PROB 11/507/14.
