3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies
P_10433_0554 – Nicholas Kidgell
Born: Unknown
Died: 1726

Nicholas Kidgell was co-owner of a slaving voyage from London by the Raper Gally to Sherbro and Jamaica in 1706: a man of the same name appears as captain of a slaving voyage from London by the Anne Galley to Gambia and Montserrat in 1716 and ‘Kidgell’ captained a slaving voyage from London by the Ruby (owned by Stephen Godin q.v.) to Gambia and St John Antigua in 1723. The combination of a 1707 voyage as co-owner with voyages in 1716 and 1723 as captain appears anomalous despite the unusual name. The will of Nicholas Kidgell as of Charles Town in South Carolina made in 1726 and proved in 1727 shows his wife Sarah living in Limehouse, and Kidgell as connected in Charles Town with the brother of Stephen Godin.
