Sources: PROB 11/526/225. The will of Joshua Shepheard of the Minories, Cutler proved 07/04/1712 [made 16/01/1710? or 1711] leaving the Boythorpe estate in Derbyshire to his grandaughter Sarah Cradock (later Coe) is referred to in a handwritten catalogue from the Chesterfield Public Library Item no. 172 https://calmview.derbyshire.gov.uk/calmview/GetDocument.ashx?. db=Catalog&fname=D7989.pdfhttps://calmview.derbyshire.gov.uk/calmview/GetDocument.ashx? db=Catalog&fname=D7989.pdfhttps://calmview.derbyshire.gov.uk/calmview/GetDocument.ashx?db=Catalog&fname=D7989.pdf. John Ayliffe, The Antient and Present State of the University of Oxford ..., Volume 1 (1714) shows Joshua Shepherd [sic] as of The Minories The History of Parliament entry for Samuel Shepheard says of him: 'Shepheard’s background remains obscure, although his father has been tentatively identified as Joshua Shepheard, who served as Master of the Saddlers’ Company in 1659', https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1690-1715/member/shepheard-samuel-i-1648-1719. Joshua Shepheard the slave-trader was a member of the Cutler's Company when he made his will: his son and heir Samuel was the man of Springfield Essex whose will was proved 14/11/1758 PROB 11/842/62. The MP was conceivably the brother of Joshua Shepheard the slave-trader, although no evidence has been found for this in the wills of Joshua Shepheard the slave-trader or Samuel Shepheard MP.

The will of Joshua Shepheard of Trinity Minories, Cutler, was made 16/01/ 1710. He left £50 and Trump [?] Hall in Springfield, Essex 'which I purchased of Henry Paschall' in trust to his son Samuel for the benefit of another son, Thomas, and then in entail [one of the trustees for which was Humphry South (q.v.)] to his daughter Rachel Lodge, then his grandson Joshua Lodge, then his grand-daughters etc. He left: two properties in the Minories in the City and his stock on the East India Co. in trust for his daughter Rachel [again the trustees were Humphrey and Robert South]; his estate near Chesterfield and another property in the Minories in trust for his grand-daughter Sarah Craddock, with £500 at marriage; £200 to his grandson Charles Craddock; his property in Whitechapel and £400 at 21 to his grandson Joshua Lodge; £1000 in trust for his grand-daughter Rachel Lodge; £1000 in trust for his grand-daughter Martha Lodge [in both these latter cases with consent for his executors to place the money in East India Co. bonds]. He made his legacies to the Lodge and Craddock grandchildren conditional on them renouncing any claim on the personal estates of their fathers. He left his property in Springfield [other than Trump Hall] to his son Samuel Shepheard, together with the Badrows [?] estate at East Thorpe in Essex' which I purchased of Andrew Wharton' and his leasehold estate at Kippas Jugs [sic] near Castleforth Bridge in Yorkshire. In memorandum of 30/07/1711 he left an additional £50 each to three kinswomen. In a further addendum dated 03/11/1711 he summarised each of his legacies, consistent with his will, and made his son Samuel his executors and residuary legatee.
