3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies

‘William Matthews’ was co-owner of a slaving voyage from London by the Saint Winifred to New Calabar and Barbados in 1700 (a ship of the same name and same captain – William Owen – had a further slaving voyage from London for the Royal African Co. in 1702). He has not been further traced to date. None of the wills of William Mathews of St Margaret Westminster proved 09/12/1702, William Matthews pewterer of London proved 27/06/1705 or Sir William Ma[t]thew Governor of the Leewards, proved 20/02/1707 offers evidence of a connection.
