Nathaniel Garthwaite (1664-1721?), London merchant and co-owner of a slaving voyage from London by the Arcania Merchant to Africa and Barbados in 1701. Of a Lincolnshire family. No will to date has been found for him. His widow Jane’s will was proved of East Greenwich 29/01/1739: in it, she left £200 each to her daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Jane from her house at Lime Street, which she left to her son Edward subject to those amounts charged on it. Edward Garthwaite was a Jamaican slave-owner who returned to Hall Place, Shackleford Surrey and died there c. 1781.
