P_10433_0730 – Edward Benson
Slave-ship captain, with two slaving voyages from London in the Amity, in the first of which in 1701 he had an ownership interest. His second voyage was for Isaac Milner (q.v.), whom he named executor of his will, made in 1703 at Jamaica, where Benson appears to have died. The third voyage by the Amity was captained by Thomas Benson, who had served under Edward Benson as mate of the 1702 voyage. Benson’s will showed he had a ‘negro boy’ named Ampoone or Ampone in Jamaica (possibly carried from Africa) and ordered him to be sold there by his local executor.
