P_10433_0882 – John Elwick
John Elwick, London merchant (1662-1730), inferred to be the ‘Elwick’ shown as co-owner of a voyage from London by the ship Africa to Cape Coast Castle and Martinique in 1702. ‘Elwick’ and unnamed others also had one voyage by the Austria Galley as owners from Portsmouth in 1704, for which no outcome is known. This latter voyage (in the Austria Galley) is associated by Tattersfield with John Cross (q.v.), and shows ‘Elwick and Stevens’ as sending cargo by land carriage, with the comment that they were associates of Cross in the 1702 voyage he freighted by the Recovery (not found in TASTDB).
