Will of Hanbury Walthall Citizen and Haberdasher made 18/05/1718. He instructed that money be set aside to pay the £500 principal and interest on a mortgage made to Mr John Barton of his moiety of plantation [and presumably the enslaved people attached to it] named Briggs in Barbados in the occupation of Sir Robert Davers, money he said he had borrowed to advance his late wives' [sic] daughter Anne now the wife of George Straughan [or Stranghan], and left her for life one half of his moiety of the profits from the estate, on condition she paid an annuity of £12 p.a. to Ann Walthall, the wife of his [the testator's] brother John Walthall; he left the other half to Elizabeth Stranghan, daughter of Anne Stranghan, who was the heir to the whole moiety after Anne Stranghan's death. He made Anne Stranghan his sole executrix, with his residuary estate to be divided among the children of his brother John Walthall and sister Ann [given earlier in the will as Eleanor] Fenton.
