3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies

John Morton was co-owner of a slaving voyage from London by the Mermaid to Africa and Jamaica in 1700. The 1703 will of John Morton of Whitechapel appears to be this man although the evidence is circumstantial: the John Morton of the 1703 will owned among other assets the Mermaid Tavern and this will was contested between Benjamin Way (q.v.) and Theodosia Morton, the daughter of the 1703 testator.  This John Morton of the 1703 will was the son of John Whicker Morton and nephew of Emanuel Morton of Jamaica.
