Will of James Chauvell of the parish of St Benet Fink made at Greenwich 19/05/1724 . He left: £400 to his uncle David Minuel; £2000 to his aunt Mary Sarrasin [sic]; £200 to Josias Le Conte; and £100 to his partner Peter Corqueel, the four being his executors. He left: £3000 to his brother John Chauvell; he gave £100 to his sister Martha Debor [?] Monville; £300 to her daughter Martha de Caveland, and £400 each to his sisters Elizabeth, Catherine and Darmenon and Marianne; £1600 to the children of his deceased brother David and £800 to the children of his deceased brother Captain Chauvell. After further monetary legacies to family and friends of £620, £1000 to Peter Balthazar Corqueel, the son of his partner, £200 to Mary Prince widow of his friend Capt. John Prince, £150 to the French Church in Threadneeedle Street, £25 to the poor of Dieppe then in England, £25 to a poor family in Greenwich chosen by his executors, and £62 to a manservant and two maids, he made his aunt his residuary legatee for half his estate and his other three executors for the other half.
