Will of John Cary Citizen and Salter made 18/05/1699. He left his wife Mary the interest from £2500 of the £5000 he had subscribed to the Two Million Loan for settling the East Indies, and from £500 of a £1000 subscription to the East India Co., as well as a lump sum of £2000. He left his children (if any) by his second wife £1000 each. He left Thomas, his eldest and only son by his first wife, £500. He had, he said in 1694 given his son Thomas 1/4 of the £12000 stock in trade and saw this as adequate. He left a further £2500 unequally among his six children by his second wife, over and above the £1000 each given to them above. He made his son Thomas Cary and his friend Thomas Mercer executors, and Captain Peter Paggan (q.v.), George Hatley (q.v.) and Timothy Ratcliffe overseers of the will.
