3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies
P_10433_1261 – Thomas Newton
Born: Unknown
Died: Unknown

Thomas [sic] Newton was shown as a co-owner with 12 others (including Thomas Gordon and William Johnston) of a slaving voyage from London by the Duchess of Portland to Cape Coast Castle and Lucea/St Lucea in 1793. Thomas Gordon (q.v.) and William Johnston (q.v.) have been inferred to have been partners in Newton, Gordon and Johnston, Madeira wine merchants. No Thomas Newton has been connected with the firm in the period of the 1793 slaving voyage: the partners were given as Francis Newton (until 1805), Thomas Gordon (until 1802) and William Johnston (until 1790).
