P_10433_1380 – William Clevland

D.O.B: D.O.D:

London ‘merchant’ and probably both slave-trader and slave-ship captain.  In 1744 William Cleveland [sic] of London merchant and John Norie (also commander)  were shown as the owners of the Black Prince, which appears under John Norie alone as owner in the TASTDB for a voyage in 1745.  Two additional voyages from London in the Annapolis are shown with William Cleveland as Captain in 1749-50 with no ownership information. An advertisement for creditors of the late William Clevland surviving partner of John Norie appeared in 1761.  Administration of the will of William Clevland merchant [late] of St George Middlesex but now of the island of Bannamus [sp?] on the Coast of Africa [made in 1746] was granted 16/11/1759 to Richard Wilson, a creditor, John Norie one of the executors of William Clevland, having died in Clevland’s lifetime.
