(of which he was a director 1724-1733 and sub-Governor 1736-56) and Edward Bridgen of two voyages to the Gold Coast and Jamaica in 1726. Described by the History of Parliament as ‘a leading merchant in the Portugal trade.’ He was part of a political and mercantile dynasty, including his brother Merrick (1699-1787), his son Peter (1724-1775) and his grandson Peter, 1st Baron Gwydyr.

Peter Burrell in his will made 06/04/1756 left his estate at Beckenham and his town house in King Street, Covent Garden to his wife Amy for life, so long as she did not remarry, with remainder to his son Peter. He left his son William a moiety of the estate at Stoneham in Sussex and an annuity of £100 p.a. His residuary heir was his son Peter.
