P_10433_1779 – William Kellaway
William Kellaway (d. 1727), captain-owner alongside the South Sea Co. and others of a slaving voyage from London by the Luxborough Galley to Cabinda and Jamaica in 1725. He and his brother died on the voyage after disembarkation of the captive African people. The voyage was the subject of memorialisation in a series of six paintings by John Cleveley, interest aroused because of cannibalism among the surviving European crew on the homeward leg of the voyage after the loss of the ship to fire.
