P_10433_1797 – Francis Chamberlayne
Owner of co-owner of six voyages from London, mainly to Whidah and then Jamaica, three of them alongside the South Sea Co. Given as ‘Francis Chamberlaine’ in TASTDB, but almost certainly the MP Francis Chamberlayne. The History of Parliament shows Francis Chamberlayne MP for New Shoreham dying intestate and indebted in 1728, and the two entries say of him that he ‘engaged in commerce himself and may have been involved in the slave trade’ and that he ‘seems to have been connected with the slave trade.’

Rawley, London Metropolis of the Slave Trade pp.69-72. The main heir of the 1731 of Francis Chamberlain merchant will was Theobald Dillon of Dublin, probably the founder of Dillon's Bank. It seems this will was of another Francis Chamberlain.
