P_10433_1851 – Carsey
‘Carsey’ was shown as the co-owner with the Yorktown merchant Dudley Digges (q.v.) of a voyage by the Providence from London to the Windward Coast and the York River in 1726. No man of this name has been traced further to date: it is possible that this was Richard Cary of Bristol and Virginia, brother of Warren Cary (q.v.).

Sources: Eli Faber, Jews, slaves and the slave trade p. 166 shows 'Cary' as a London owner in 1726. Warren Cary of Bristol had links to Virginia and was in Yorktown in the 1710s; his brother Richard Cary was also connected with Yorktown, and was in Virginia at the time his will (made in 1711, 'merchant of Bristol') was proved in 1730, PROB 11/52/431.
