Sources: There is a speculative possibility that this was Montfort Browne the Lt Governor of West Florida and then Governor of the Bahamas, whose patron was Lord Dartmouth, the name of a ship in one of 'M. Brown's' three voyages. The Lord Dartmouth was built in the Royal Navy's shipyards and delivered to Senegambia in 1776 for the use of [Matthias] McNamara [the Lt-Governor], T 1/526/93-94 Description: SENEGAL AND SENEGAMBIA: Delivery of armed ship Lord Dartmouth for use of McNamara. Date: 1776 Mar. 27. It is not clear how it ended up in the hands of a private individual. The other two ships were built in the American colonies.
