Sources: Papers of Continental Congress p. 1189. The Eden Papers at Durham University Library Special Collections contain correspondence of Thomas Eden (1745-1805) with Christopher Court and describe him as the fourth son of Sir Robert Eden 3rd bart. EDE/C26/1. Elsewhere the finding aid also describes Thomas Eden (c. 1734-1807) deputy auditor of Greenwich Hospital as son of Robert Eden 3rd bart. These appear to be the same man, linked by the attestation of the will of Thomas Eden in 1805, which refers to him as of Wimbledon, Savage Gardens and Greenwich Hospital. PROB 11/1431/323.

Will of Thomas Eden of Wimbledon made 14/08/1803. 'My affairs being in that sort of unsettled and deranged state from there partnerships' book not being wrote up for several years,' he had little idea what his property was, 'but there must be a very considerable sum due to me.' [Later in the will he identified his partners as Christopher and Thomas Court]. His wife Mariana, he said, had an annuity of £1000 p.a. 'from the archbishop's goodness' [this appears to refer to his brother-in-law John Moore, archbishop of Canterbury]. He authorised her with the consent of two executors to use any part of his fortune to advance their children, and to leave £1000 under her own will.
