He was a Director of the Royal Exchange Assurance. He left land in Westminster (identified in his daughter Elizabeth Stanynought’s will proved in 1806 as Tothill Street and Long Ditch ‘now called Princes Street’).

John Smith, the Sarah, at St Thomas' to Mr. Brearcliffe, stonehewer [sic] of Wood Street, London. Asks him to pay for the replacement cablet hawser delivered to the Sarah by Captain Richard Herbert, the Diamond, to replace the one condemned. Has sent three bills, two of which have been settled.
