P_10433_2109 – William Gerrish

D.O.B: D.O.D:

William Gerrish, fl. 1723-1738, shown as sole owner of 13 slaving voyages from London, co-owner of three more (two with Edward Chester q.v. and one with the captain Arthur Lone q.v.), and owner of a further three for which no port of origin is currently known. Ten of the voyages were destined for Antigua. No PCC will has been found. Vere Langford Oliver shows him as one man but there are grounds for believing two men of the same name were active at the same time. (1) V.L. Oliver shows William Gerrish as Collector of Montserrat and Member of the Council there 1704-5, and as still (or again) in Montserrat in 1738 (and Nathaniel Webb (q.v.) as the son-in-law of Wm Gerrish of Montserrat), while (2) Wm Gerrish jun. of Mark Lane attested the copying of the will of Henry Osborn in Antigua in Aug 1734 and then in London Oct. 1734. Luke Porter of London was shown as the administrator of the will of William Gorrish [sic] in 1745 appointing John Banister as attorney in Antigua 17/08/1741, and an inventory of his will in London was recorded in 1741.
