Will of Martin French of Montserrat made 11/11/1724. He left his wife Margaret an annuity of £200 p.a. currency and [highly unusually] £300 p.a. if she married again, together with any two of his 'Negroes' and any one of his horses, and his house for life, on condition she delivered a renunciation of dower to Katherine French, his [and presumably their] daughter. He left £300 to Mr Anthony Nixon [?] on condition he renounced any further claim to the estate. He left £500 to his nephew Valentine French (with £100 to be paid by Valentine French to another nephew Michael French son of his [the testator's] brother Henry French after 7 years); £50 to each of the daughters of Henry French; £30 to Jane Skerrit the daughter of Robert Skerrit; £40 to James Grant [not further identified]; £10 p.a. to the poor of Galway to be distributed by his brother Andrew French; £50 to Mary Kirwan daughter of Katherine Kirwan; £30 to Margaret Quirke to be used as she see fit for the use of her child; £40 to Stephen Lynch, son of John Lynch of St Kitts; £200 to Martin French son of his brother Andrew French at 14; £10 to each other child of Andrew French; £30 to Simon Semper. After further minor monetary legacies he provided that if Montserrat were invaded his bequests would be scaled back by his executors. He left the rest of his personalty and his real estate to his daughter Katherine and her heirs, failing whom to his nephew Martin French. He made Dominic Trant the consignee of his sugars if Trant settled in London. In a codicil of 15/11/1725 when he was of Bristol he revoked the legacy of £500 to Valentine French and left instead £250 to Valentine's father Henry French and £250 to Martin French.
