London merchant, described as ‘a Turkey merchant’ in the History of Parliament. Sir Joseph Eyles was shown as one of the six co-owners of a voyage by the London Frigate to Cabinda and Charleston in 1738. He was the brother of Sir John Eyles (q.v.) sub-Governor of the South Sea Co. The two men’s father Sir Francis Eyles was one of Zahedieh’s 59 leading colonial traders. According to Sorsby, most of the ships sent to Buenos Aires by the South Sea co. under Sir John Eyles as sub-Governor were owned by his cousin [sic] Joseph Eyles.

Will of Sir Joseph Eyles Knt. of London merchant made 06/01/1734/5. He felt his widow Dame Sarah Eyes one-third of personalty to which she was entitled as the widow of a freeman of the City of London ove ran above the terms of their marriage settlement; he left £8000 each to his daughters Sarah and Elizabeth, and his residuary estate ho his son Joseph. His executors were his widow, his bother Sir John Eyles, and his 'friends' John Lister and Thomas Strode. The will was subject to successive grants of administration, to William Cockell a creditor in 1745, and to Cockell's successors in 1753, and to a London attorney as far as concerned a moiety of an estate in Gloucestershire in 1821.
