P_10433_2395 – George Fox
George Fox was shown as owner-captain of a slaving voyage from London by the Queen of Hungary to Gambia and Jamaica in 1742 (in which a second captain was appointed), and was probably the ‘Fox’ who captained two earlier voyages by the Mary in 1738 and 1741. The will of George Fox mariner made in 1742 and proved in 1743 contains no evidence linking him to the slave-trade, but the voyage of the Queen of Hungary leaving London in shortly after the will was made and being completed by a second captain is consistent with George Fox dying on the voyage.
