P_10433_2403 – John Norie
Partner with William Clevland (q.v.). In 1744 William Cleveland [sic] of London merchant and John Norie (also commander) were shown as the owners of the Black Prince. An advertisement for creditors of William Clevland surviving partner of John Norie appeared in 1761. No will or death-date has yet been found for Norie: he died between 1746 when he was named as an executor of William Clevland, and 1759, when administration of the will of William Clevland was granted to Richard Wilson, John Norie having died in the lifetime of William Clevland.

Sources: The will of John Norrie mariner made Dec. 1749 and proved 14/10/1755 showing him as of the EI ship True Briton appears too modest to have been that of a voyage owner. The Black Prince of Bristol is the subject of a chapter in Nicholas Rogers, Blood Waters, which references Norrie's ship on his voyage as Owner Captain as a separate ship of the same name and posits his name as Norrie or Norris.
