Thomas Newby, owner of slaving voyage from London by the Commerce to Cape Coast Castle and Kingston in 1785. Thomas Newby (along with e.g. James Mather) appears as a correspondent of Archibald Douglas of Plymouth in the Galton papers, Thomas Newby was with Benjamin Adams and James Mather among the lead investors in the privateer The Terrible in 1778. He has not been further identified to date.
