3.1 million enslaved people trafficked to the British colonies

Edward Lamb (1761-1819), owner-captain of the slaving voyage from London by the Duchess of Portland to Cape Coast Castle and Lucea/St Lucea in 1792, and almost certainly the captain of an earlier voyage by the Friendship with the same itinerary in 1788 for John McNabb (q.v.) as owner.  He was the father of John Lamb (1790-1862), who has an entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography as ‘naval officer, political and merchant’, in an entry that describes John Lamb’s father as ‘Captain Lamb of the East India Co.’s service.’  The voyage of the Duchess of Portland was co-owned by 13 people, among them several female relatives of Edward Lamb.
