‘Peter Mestears was shown among the co-owners of a slaving voyage from London by the Duchess of Portland to Cape Coast Castle and Lucea/St Lucea in December 1792. This was almost certainly Peter Everitt Mestaer (q.v), the will of Peter Mestaer the father having been proved in February 1791. There is a possibility, however, that Peter Mestaer the father appeared posthumously among the co-owners as a member of a partnership.
