Born: Unknown
Died: 1845

Co-owner with a dozen others in the slaving voyage from London of the Duchess of Portland to Cape Coast Castle and Lucea/St Lucea in 1792. Very probably the sailmaker and coal-factor of Wapping, in partnership with his mother Elizabeth, and bankrupt in 1812. Despite his bankruptcy, he appeared to have reconstituted his firm in partnership with Thomas Gillespy jun. at 12 Billiter Square until 1831.

Will of Thomas Gillespy of Crutched Friars coal-factor made 03/02/1824. He recapitulated legacy to himself of £2000 from his ward Charles Reynolds of Jamaica in 1815, which he left to his son Thomas Gillespy along with his other property, with an annuity of £20 p.a. to his wife Jane nee Cassels added in codicils of 1844 [he had made a marriage settlement with her at Leith in 1788 that presumably provided further for her].
