P_10433_2980 – Robert Moulton
Born: Unknown
Died: 1833

Robert Moulton (d. c. 1833), Jamaican mariner and merchant, was co-owner of a slaving voyage by the Earl of Effingham from London to the Gold Coast and the Black River, Jamaica in 1790, co-owner and captain of a slaving voyage from London by the Rio Nova in 1791 to Popo and then Jamaica, and co-owner 1792 of a second slaving voyage from London by the Rio Nova in 1791 to Popo and then Jamaica (for which the captain is given as ‘Richard Moulton’). Robert Moulton of Montego Bay was the executor of Arthur Appleby, master of the Rio Nova, under Appleby’s will made in 1803 and proved 1808, suggesting Robert Moulton was also the owner (given only as ‘Moulton’) of a slaving voyage by the Rio Nova from London to the Gold Coast and Jamaica in 1804. A Robert Moulton had been commander of the West India ship Active in 1786; Robert Moulton had himself been master of the Earl of Effingham in 1789. He was at Montego Bay 1801, and was very probably the brother of Charles Moulton (q.v.), and thus the great-uncle of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning.
