P_10433_3030 – William Christopher
William Christopher was a co-investor in a voyage from London of the Francis and Harriot to the Gold Coast and Grenada in 1791, with Robert Smith, Rowland Webster and John Middleton, together with William Welbank, George Sharpe and George Brown, the last three of whom were partners in London as ‘brokers’. There is a Stockton-on-Tees connection among the first four men. The 1797 will of William Christopher of Stockton-on-Tees is that of the Hudson Bay Company captain and correspondent of James Banks who became a ship-owner in the north-east, and is very probably the same man as the 1791 co-investor.
