London merchant, co-owner of seven slaving voyages from London between 1793 and 1795, and one from Liverpool in 1784, all with Charles John Wheeler (q.v.) and all but one with Daniel Barnard (q.v.) among the co-owners. The three men were partners in Higginson, Barnard and Wheeler merchants of 2 New Court, St Swithin’s Lane. His will made and proved in 1798 indicated material wealth, with specific legacies and annuities amounting to £29,000. Higginson’s grandson and presumably namesake, Edmund Barneby later Higginson (1802-1871), was a major 19th century art-collector and builder of Saltmarshe Castle.

Will of Edmund Higginson merchant of New Court St Swithin's Lane City of London made 12/06/1798. He left land at Stanford Bishop, then leased out to tenants, to John Barneby [sp?] of Brockhampton, and land at Uxbridge occupied by his sister Lydia Bulkeley to her for life and then in trust (his trustees were his brother Robert Higginson, John Barneby and Charles John Wheeler), together with further land in Buckinghamshire and the City of London to be sold. He left £3000 to his brother William Higginson of Berners Street, £1000 to Lydia Bulkeley and £1000 to Robert Higginson, and £3000 to John Barneby [whom he later in the will identified as the husband of his niece Elizabeth], and annuities of £1000 p.a. to Lydia Bulkeley and £500 p.a. to his brother Robert, together with 2/3rd of the income on his residual estate to the former and 1/3rd to the latter for their respective lives, after which the principal to Elizabeth Barneby and her heirs.
