Sources: Hancock (p. 11) shows simply fl. 1753-83 for Chambers, who remains an indistinct figure in Citizens of the World, and is identified as a cousin of John Sargent II's wife. John Sargent's wife Rosamund Chambers (d. 1792) was the sister of the radical theologian William Chambers (1724-77) and cousin of Christopher Chambers, D. O. Thomas, 'John Disney's Diary', in Enlightenment and Dissent No. 1 2002, pp. 42-127, at p. 13. This source also gives Sophia and Frances Chambers as sisters of Dr William Chambers, although Sophia's baptism-record of 1732 shows her as the daughter of Rev. William Chambers minister of All Saints Derby and that of Frances shows Wm Chambers as her father, while University of Cambridge Alumni shows the father of Dr William Chambers as John Chambers of Derbyshire. The baptism-record for Christopher Chambers at All Saints Derbyshire 19/10/1732 shows him as the son of Rev. William Chambers. European Magazine and London Review Vol. 43 Part 1 Jan-Jun. 1803 p. 238 March 2 [1803] [Death of] Christopher Chambers of Mincing Lane. Humphrey Household, The Thames & Severn Canal. [This arrangement might have been a means of circumventing the cap of 100 shares on individual subscriptions]. Minutes Wed 7 Sep 1803 'Mr Joseph Grazebrook attended on behalf of Lancellot Chambers of the City of London Esqr and made out his Claim to four [sic] Shares M60, 160, 161, 164, 165 in the Stroudwater Navigation late the property of Christopher Chambers last of Mincing Lane in the City of London Esqr deceased by producing Letters of Administration of the Goods, & Chattles and Credits of the said Christopher Chambers (who died Intestate) granted on the 8th July 1803 by the Perogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury unto the said Lancellot Chamber, who is entitled to the said Shares and the said Claim is hereby admitted.' https://stroudwaterhistory.org.uk/document/4630/ [accessed 15/03/2022].
