‘Leyburn’ appears as a co-owner and ‘Layburn’ as captain of a slaving voyage from London by the Prince of Orange to West Central Africa and Trinidad & Tobago, alongside George Geddes (q.v.) and unnamed others, in 1806.  The ship under letters of marque was reported to have arrived at Suriname under his captaincy, but Thomas Finlay, the other captain named for this voyage, made at least two prizes as privateer from Surinam later in the same year, implying Layburn had died at Surinam or shortly after leaving it.
