D.O.B: 1756
D.O.D:
London shipwright of Ratcliffe Cross (1756-?), co-owner with two others in a single slaving voyage in 1791 (for which the TASTDB gives Joseph Mineton). His father James Menetone showed significant wealth in his will proved 07/11/1786 but Joseph Menetone’s business failed in 1794. Given as Joseph Minetone shipwright at 53 Broad St. Ratcliffe in 1794. The family’s business as shipwrights and shipowners is summarised by Morris & Cozens, who say of the ships in which Joseph Menetone and his brother-in-law Robert Oliver inherited shares from James Menetone in 1786 ‘they were not involved in the triangular trade with West Africa and the transport of slaves.’ Joseph Menetone inherited shares in the William and Elizabeth; the St Vincent; and the Sophia Bailey from his father.
