Sole owner of a slaving voyage by the Venus from London to West Central Africa and Surinam in 1804. Lloyd’s Register (Underwriters) gives Gavin at the owner of the Venus under Ribbing as captain between 1805 and 1810; Lloyd’s Registers (Shipowners) give ‘Gueeding’ as the owner of the same ship for the same period. Neither name has been traced further, and both are possibly mistranscriptions.
