Sources: PROB 11/634/83 MDMitchell p. 234 W. Pettigrew, Freedom's Debt pp. 68, 78. The source for the cargoes of Stephen Godin is given as 'Copies and Affidavits and Information, 1698-1712, Jan. 24 1706 T70/1434 n.p.' Ownership of Voyage No. 76131 to Gambia and Charleston in 1725-27 by the Samuel is given only as 'Godin'. David Godin's voyages between 1732 and 1739 were all to Charleston, but the chronology suggests Stephen Godin was the slave-trader active at the time of the Samuel's voyage. Huw T. David, 'The Atlantic at Work: Brian and South Carolina's Trading Networks, c. 1730 to 1790' (Unpublished PhD Thesis, Lincoln College, 2011) p. 26. The voyage of the Ruby in 1725 of which Poey was captain appears to have been the subject of C 11/233/34 Short title: Assurance Royal Exchange Company v Godin. Document type: Two bills and two answers. Plaintiffs: Royal Exchange Assurance. Defendants: Stephen Godin and Peter Poey. Date of bill (or first document): 1726 https://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/person/view/2146661355
